Internship refers to a process in which our students work at a workplace for a specific period, either on a mandatory or voluntary basis, to gain experience in the field of foreign trade. It provides opportunities for students to translate their theoretical knowledge into practical application, enhance their professional skills, and gain experience in a work environment. Students enrolled in the Foreign Trade Program are required to complete a total of 40 working days of mandatory internship. This internship can be completed in two separate periods of 20+20 working days, either during the semester break or over the summer. Key details regarding the internship process are as follows:
What should I do before starting my internship?
Select the institution where you will complete your internship and obtain approval from your advisor, Lecturer Dr. Kenan Demirel. (Phone: +90 232 488 984, e-mail: kenan.demirel@ieu.edu.tr, office: A Block, Room 107 (schedule an appointment before visiting)
For the internship application process, you can consult the Career Center located at the Student Dean's Office on the ground floor of block A. You can get in touch by calling 0232 488 8427 or 8189, or by sending an email to staj@ieu.edu.tr.
If the institution requires proof that your internship is mandatory or that your insurance premium will be covered by the university, submit the "Mandatory Internship Letter".
What should I do after completing my internship? What documents should I submit?
After your internship, you must submit the following three documents to your advisor:
- Internship report form > To be completed by the student. Each page must be signed and stamped by the internship institution. The report must be typed in Times New Roman, size 12 font, 1.5 line spacing, printed on A4 paper. Handwritten reports are not accepted. - Form completed by the institution > This is filled out by the internship institution and evaluates the student’s performance. Each page must be signed and stamped by the institution. *These documents must be submitted to your advisor within 7 days after completing the internship. Successfully completed internships will be recorded on your transcript as S / Satisfied. Unsuccessful internships will be marked as U / Unsatisfied.
Where can I complete my internship?
Students can intern in the following areas:
- European Union delegations,
- Ministry of Trade,
- Chambers of Commerce,
- Companies involved in import/export,
- Foreign trade departments of businesses,
- Customs and shipping companies,
- International economic organizations,
- Logistics firms,
- Market research companies,
- Agencies specializing in international trade branding and promotion (e.g., advertising, public relations, digital marketing),
- Banks handling financial transactions related to foreign trade.

It is important for students to present themselves professionally. Ensure you have an updated resume, a LinkedIn account and a cover letter (or motivation letter if required).
